Tarangire National Park
Large elephant populations, spectacular baobab trees and diverse wildlife — a strong opening act to your safari just a short drive from Arusha.
A private 9-day Tanzania honeymoon safari through Tarangire National Park, three nights in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. Your own 4×4 vehicle, a dedicated professional driver-guide, and luxury honeymoon accommodation — with an optional Zanzibar beach extension to finish.
Looking for a Tanzania honeymoon that combines unforgettable wildlife with romantic safari accommodation — without spending two weeks on the road? Our 9-Day Tanzania Honeymoon Safari is designed for couples who want to experience some of Tanzania's most iconic wildlife destinations in one private journey. Travel through Tarangire National Park, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater with your own private 4×4 safari vehicle and dedicated professional driver-guide. You can choose comfortable mid-range accommodation, luxury safari camps or premium properties depending on your budget and honeymoon style.
Nine days gives you enough time to experience the classic Northern Circuit without making the trip feel rushed — and the private format means the itinerary is built entirely around the two of you. Every element, from accommodation category to optional honeymoon experiences, is shaped around your dates, budget and priorities.
Indicative price: from approximately US$4,000 per person. Final pricing depends on your travel dates, accommodation, safari route, season and selected experiences.
Nine days gives you enough time to experience Tanzania's classic Northern Circuit without making the trip feel rushed. More importantly, travelling privately means the itinerary is built around the two of you.
You are not sharing your vehicle with other travellers and you do not have to follow someone else's schedule. Leave early, stay late, stop for photography — the day adapts to you.
Instead of driving through, you go deeper into the ecosystem. Two full Serengeti days let your guide follow wildlife activity rather than a fixed route — predators, elephants, photography, landscapes or the Great Migration.
The crater's enclosed ecosystem supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife — lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, zebra and wildebeest, with a real chance of the endangered black rhino.
The 9-day safari stands alone as a complete honeymoon. But if you'd like to finish beside the Indian Ocean, a 3–5 night Zanzibar extension can be added seamlessly.
A clean Northern Circuit arc from Kilimanjaro Airport, through the great parks, and back to Arusha.
The route runs Kilimanjaro (JRO) → Arusha → Tarangire National Park → Serengeti National Park → Ngorongoro Conservation Area → Arusha, with a final transfer back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your international flight. All legs are handled by private 4×4 road transfer with game drives woven into the driving days. An optional Zanzibar extension can be added before or after the safari, depending on your international flight schedule.
Luxury lodges, tented camps, private game drives and quiet sundowners — the moments that make this honeymoon.
Each stop on the route serves a different purpose — from baobab country to predator plains to a collapsed volcanic caldera.
Large elephant populations, spectacular baobab trees and diverse wildlife — a strong opening act to your safari just a short drive from Arusha.
Exceptional wildlife and the annual Great Migration. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo and huge herds of herbivores across the ecosystem.
A UNESCO World Heritage property and the world's largest intact caldera. Its enclosed ecosystem supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife.
Your own vehicle and dedicated professional driver-guide throughout. Game drives adapt to what you want to see, not a fixed group schedule.
An optional Serengeti balloon flight — watch the plains wake up from above before enjoying a bush breakfast. Available for suitable itineraries.
Finish beside the Indian Ocean. Beach resort, Stone Town, spice farm, private dhow cruise, snorkelling, diving and a romantic beach dinner.
This sample itinerary combines Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro while allowing enough time to enjoy each destination. Your actual itinerary can be adjusted according to your travel dates, wildlife priorities, accommodation preferences and budget.
Welcome to Tanzania. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met and privately transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. After your international journey, the day is intentionally relaxed. Check into your lodge, enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the safari ahead. If you arrive early enough, you can explore a little of Arusha or simply enjoy a quiet afternoon together.
After breakfast, depart Arusha and travel toward Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is known for its large elephant populations, spectacular baobab trees and diverse wildlife. Your first private game drive begins after entering the park. Spend the afternoon exploring the Tarangire landscape with your dedicated guide. Depending on the season, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope and predators. As the afternoon light changes, continue toward your safari accommodation.
After breakfast, begin your journey toward the Serengeti National Park. As you leave the Tarangire area, the landscape changes from woodland and baobabs to the expansive plains of northern Tanzania. Depending on the route and arrival time, enjoy a game drive as you enter the Serengeti. The Serengeti is famous for its exceptional wildlife and the annual Great Migration. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo and huge herds of herbivores can be encountered throughout the ecosystem. Arrive at your camp or lodge and settle into the Serengeti.
Today is dedicated to the Serengeti. Wake early and head out with your private guide. An early start gives you an opportunity to experience the Serengeti during one of the most active periods of the day. Follow wildlife activity rather than a predetermined route. Your guide can focus on the experiences that matter most to you — predators, elephants, photography, landscapes or the Great Migration depending on your travel dates. Return to camp later in the day or continue exploring until sunset.
A second full day in the Serengeti allows you to go deeper into the ecosystem instead of spending your honeymoon constantly packing and moving between destinations. Your route will depend on the season and where wildlife is concentrated. You may explore different areas of the Serengeti, searching for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and large herds. The advantage of a private safari is that your guide can adjust the day according to what you want to see.
Enjoy a final Serengeti game drive before travelling toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes you from the open plains into the dramatic highlands. Arrive at your accommodation overlooking or near the crater and enjoy time to relax. The cooler highland environment provides a beautiful contrast to the Serengeti.
Wake early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a private game drive. The crater's enclosed ecosystem supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife. Look for lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, zebra, wildebeest and other species. With luck, you may also encounter the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the day's exploration before ascending from the crater. Return to your accommodation in the afternoon and enjoy a well-earned evening together.
After breakfast, begin the journey back toward Arusha. Depending on your international flight schedule, you can keep the final day relaxed or add an activity along the way. Arrive in Arusha and check into your accommodation. This is your final evening in Tanzania before your journey home or an optional Zanzibar extension.
Enjoy your final breakfast before your private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your international flight. If your honeymoon continues to Zanzibar, this day can instead be adapted around your domestic flight connection. Your 9-day Tanzania honeymoon comes to an end, but the memories of the Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorongoro will stay with you long after you leave.
Tanzania's Northern Circuit supports an extraordinary range of species. What you see on any given day depends on season, weather and plain luck. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Tarangire is especially known for its large elephant populations and spectacular baobab trees. Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a range of predators also occur in the park, along with extensive birdlife.
The Serengeti offers vast open plains, resident predators — lions, cheetahs, leopards — and grazers including wildebeest, zebra and gazelles. Seasonal migration movements depend on rainfall and the time of year; exact animal locations change throughout the year.
The crater floor supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife — lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, zebra, wildebeest and abundant birdlife. The endangered black rhino may also be encountered. UNESCO describes the crater as the world's largest caldera.
A note on wildlife: sightings are never guaranteed. We plan routes and timing around the best available information, but wild animals move on their own schedule.
Tanzania offers excellent opportunities to see the Big Five, particularly across the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystem. This itinerary includes three nights in the Serengeti and a full crater day — two of the strongest settings in East Africa for lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo, with the Ngorongoro Crater among the best places in Tanzania to encounter the endangered black rhino.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Your private guide will use current conditions, wildlife behaviour and local knowledge to maximise your opportunities — and because the vehicle is yours alone, you can stay with a sighting as long as you wish rather than moving on with a group schedule.
If Big Five sightings are a priority for your honeymoon, tell us at the planning stage — we can adjust routing, accommodation and pacing to give you the best realistic opportunity without over-promising.
The Great Migration is a natural wildlife movement, so sightings depend on the time of year and the location of the herds. It is a seasonal, rainfall-driven movement of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem — the animals are not permanently in one place, and the timing of their movements varies year to year.
If seeing the migration is a major priority, we will recommend the safari route and Serengeti region according to your travel dates. River crossings cannot be promised, and migration viewing depends entirely on rainfall and herd movements at the time of travel.
Importantly, the Serengeti offers excellent wildlife viewing outside migration periods as well. Resident predators, elephants, giraffes and a wide range of plains game are present year-round. If the migration matters to you, share your preferred dates early so we can select routing and accommodation accordingly.
Some romantic touches come as standard on a private safari. Others can be arranged as honeymoon upgrades. Here's the honest breakdown.
Optional experiences are quoted separately and confirmed before travel. No optional service is automatically included unless stated in your proposal.
Many couples choose to extend their Tanzania safari with several nights in Zanzibar. After days of wildlife and adventure, Zanzibar gives you time to slow down and enjoy the Indian Ocean.
A typical extension can include 3–5 nights, although the length can be customized to suit your honeymoon. The extension can be added before or after the safari, depending on your international flight schedule.
Zanzibar — the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, known locally as Unguja — is more than a beach. It is an island with its own history: Swahili trading ports, Omani palaces, spice farms and fishing villages, layered onto some of the finest beaches in the western Indian Ocean.
Spend uninterrupted time together on the white-sand beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Discover the historic streets and architecture of Zanzibar's UNESCO-listed historic centre.
Learn about Zanzibar's famous spices and their role in the island's history.
Sail along the Indian Ocean aboard a traditional wooden dhow as the sun sets.
Explore Zanzibar's coral reefs and marine environment, including reef fish and sea turtles.
End your honeymoon with a specially arranged dinner beside the ocean.
We work across three accommodation categories. Your final lodges and camps are chosen based on availability, location and the style you prefer.
Comfortable lodges and tented camps with private rooms, en-suite bathrooms and strong locations on the safari route. Reliable service and a genuine safari experience.
Upscale safari lodges and premium tented camps — often with sweeping views, plunge pools, spa facilities and elevated dining. The sweet spot for most honeymoon couples.
Top-tier properties, upgraded room categories where available, private suites, plunge pools and additional private experiences layered on top — subject to real availability.
Every property is quoted against real availability at the time of booking. Specific properties are proposed in your tailored proposal — we do not list unverified hotels on this page.
This honeymoon is built as a private safari. That means your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, and the freedom to shape each day around your pace rather than a group schedule.
A shared-vehicle option may be available on request. Shared vehicle never means shared accommodation — rooms remain private. If this particular honeymoon product is booked as private-only, we will confirm that clearly in your proposal.
The cost of a 9-day Tanzania honeymoon depends mainly on the accommodation category, travel season, safari route and additional experiences. As a planning guide, a private 9-day honeymoon safari can range from approximately US$4,000 to US$12,000+ per person.
Comfortable lodges and tented camps with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, in well-located positions on the safari route.
Upscale safari lodges and premium tented camps — often with sweeping views, plunge pools and elevated dining. The most popular honeymoon tier.
Top-tier properties, private suites and upgraded room categories where available, with additional private experiences layered on top.
| Safari Style | Approx. Price Per Person | Approx. Price Per Couple |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort / Mid-Range Private | From ~$4,000 | From ~$8,000 |
| Luxury Private | ~$5,500 – $8,500+ | ~$11,000 – $17,000+ |

Peak dry season and festive periods carry higher rates than green-season travel.
More nights in the Serengeti increases cost but deepens the wildlife experience.
Mid-range, luxury or ultra-luxury is the single biggest driver of your price.
A private 4×4 with a dedicated guide is included by default; group options may reduce cost.
Government fees for each park and the Ngorongoro Crater are set per itinerary.
Internal flights, where included in the agreed itinerary, add to the total.
Adding a beach portion increases the total but transforms the trip into a bush & beach honeymoon.
Hot-air balloon safari, private bush dinners and other honeymoon experiences are quoted separately.
The exact inclusions depend on your selected itinerary and accommodation. Your final proposal will clearly identify every included service and any optional costs.

Real feedback from couples who travelled this route with us.
Three nights in the Serengeti was the right call. We never felt rushed, and our guide found us a leopard on the second morning that we watched for over an hour. Nine days was perfect for us.
The Ngorongoro Crater was extraordinary — we saw rhino on our first morning. Every transfer was on time, every lodge matched what we'd been promised, and the private vehicle made all the difference.
We added four nights in Zanzibar at the end and it turned the trip into a proper bush-and-beach honeymoon. The planning process was straightforward and every question was answered within hours.
Want to speak to a past couple? Ask us during planning — we can usually connect you with a recent honeymooner.
Tanzania can be visited throughout much of the year, but the best time depends on what you want from your honeymoon. For honeymoon planning, we recommend choosing your dates first and then designing the route around the conditions you are likely to encounter.
Particularly rewarding for couples interested in the Great Migration calving season, especially around the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area. Large concentrations of wildebeest and young animals attract predators, creating excellent wildlife opportunities.
The dry season is one of the most popular times for a Tanzania safari. Wildlife is often easier to spot around water sources and the weather is generally favourable for safari activities.
The landscape becomes greener and the seasonal rains transform the scenery. This can be an attractive period for couples seeking a quieter safari experience and often better rates.
The long-rain season can offer lower accommodation rates and beautiful green landscapes, although rain can affect road conditions and some seasonal properties close.
A concise view of safari conditions and honeymoon considerations across the year. Weather is never guaranteed — these are general patterns.

| January | Warm, generally good game viewing; calving season in the southern Serengeti depending on conditions. | Strong for wildlife-focused couples; expect premium pricing in safari areas. |
| February | Excellent general safari conditions; calving season possibilities in the Ndutu area. | A popular honeymoon month — book early. |
| March | Wildlife still good; longer rains begin to build later in the month. | Better rates; suitable if you accept some rain. |

Weather patterns vary year to year. The table above is a general planning guide, not a forecast.
If you have limited time, nine days can provide an excellent classic Tanzania safari — Tarangire, three nights in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, with enough time to properly enjoy each destination rather than simply driving through.
If you want a more relaxed pace, more Serengeti time, or several Zanzibar nights, extending to 10 days or longer can make the journey more comfortable. The extra day is often used to add a second crater-area night, a Karatu or Lake Manyara stop, or to begin the Zanzibar extension a day earlier.
If you want a longer Serengeti stay and a longer beach portion, our 10-Day Tanzania Honeymoon Safari & Zanzibar includes a sunrise hot air balloon safari and four nights on Zanzibar including Stone Town.
Tell us your priorities and we'll recommend the length that fits — there's no obligation either way.
Actual travel times vary depending on accommodation locations, road conditions and routing. Game drives and wildlife stops are woven into some road-transfer days — this is not simple point-to-point driving.
| Route | Travel Consideration |
|---|---|
| Kilimanjaro Airport → Arusha | Private road transfer on arrival day |
| Arusha → Tarangire | Road journey with game-drive stops where appropriate |
| Tarangire → Serengeti | Longer safari transfer day, with wildlife viewing en route |
| Serengeti (internal days) | Full-day game drives from your camp, no long transfers |
| Serengeti → Ngorongoro | Scenic transfer from the plains into the crater highlands |
| Ngorongoro Crater descent | Full crater day with picnic lunch; ascent in the afternoon |
| Ngorongoro → Arusha | Return road journey on your final safari day |
| Arusha → Kilimanjaro Airport | Private transfer on departure day |
If your honeymoon includes a Zanzibar extension, the safari-to-island leg is handled by a domestic flight. Safari flights often have luggage weight limits — confirm the exact allowance for your booking.
A honeymoon should give you time together. With a private safari, you are not sharing your vehicle with other travellers — that means your day can be adapted around you.
You can. Early starts are one of the best ways to catch predators on the move, and there's no group to wait for.
You can. There is no schedule pushing you on, and no one else's preferences to balance against yours.
You can. Your guide adjusts the day around how you feel — a long lunch, a siesta, a spa hour or a second afternoon drive.
Your guide can accommodate you. Light, angle, patience — none of it has to be negotiated with strangers.
This flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of choosing a private Tanzania honeymoon safari. A shared-vehicle option may be available on request to reduce cost — but shared vehicle never means shared accommodation.
A quick packing breakdown for the safari, plus a short list if you're adding Zanzibar.
Domestic flight baggage restrictions must be checked against the confirmed flight operator — soft-sided bags are commonly required on light aircraft.
Your honeymoon should not feel like a standard package. At Tanzania Bespoke Expeditions, we design private tailor-made safari journeys around your dates, interests, accommodation preferences and budget.
We are based in Tanzania and specialise in private Tanzania safari experiences — not a foreign reseller.
Your own 4×4 safari vehicle and dedicated professional guide, with private rooms throughout.
Your itinerary is built around your priorities rather than a fixed group schedule.
We can coordinate the safari and beach portions of your honeymoon as one journey, including domestic flights.
Mid-range, luxury or ultra-luxury — we match your honeymoon to the level you actually want.
You have a single specialist from the first enquiry through to your return home. No handovers between agents.
Tell us a little about your plans and we will build your itinerary around you. You do not need to have everything decided before contacting us.
When are you planning to travel? This is the single biggest factor in pricing and availability.
How many people are travelling, and what is your approximate budget per person or for the couple?
Would you prefer mid-range, luxury or ultra-luxury? We can recommend based on your style and budget.
Are there particular animals or experiences you want to prioritise — predators, rhino, the Great Migration, photography?
Would you like to add a beach extension? We can recommend the right length and resort style.
Are there any honeymoon surprises or experiences you would like us to arrange — balloon flight, bush dinner, decorations?
Small choices add up. Here's how we approach responsible travel on this itinerary.
Never feed wildlife. Follow your guide's instructions in the vehicle, especially around predators.
We work with locally operated lodges and camps, and encourage visits that benefit the communities around them.
Always ask before photographing people, particularly in rural villages and cultural settings.
Bring a reusable water bottle and avoid single-use plastics where you can.
Dress modestly when visiting villages and cultural sites. If adding Zanzibar, note that the island is predominantly Muslim.
If adding Zanzibar, use reef-safe sunscreen and follow snorkelling and diving guidelines at all marine sites.
Direct answers to the questions we're asked most often about this itinerary — plus our in-depth honeymoon guides.
A private 9-day Tanzania honeymoon safari can start from approximately US$4,000 per person, with luxury and ultra-luxury options costing significantly more. Planning ranges typically span US$4,000 to US$12,000+ per person, or roughly US$8,000 to US$24,000+ per couple. The final price depends on accommodation, travel dates, park fees, route and optional experiences such as a hot-air balloon safari or a Zanzibar extension.
Yes. The itinerary is designed as a private safari with your own 4×4 vehicle and a dedicated professional driver-guide. You do not share the vehicle with other travellers, and daily game drives can be adapted around your pace and interests. A shared-vehicle option may be available on request to reduce cost, but shared vehicle never means shared accommodation.
Yes. The itinerary on this page is a sample framework. We can adjust the number of nights in each destination, change the route, and modify accommodation according to your budget and honeymoon style. Most proposals go through two or three revisions before you confirm.
Yes. A Zanzibar extension of typically 3 to 5 nights can be added before or after the safari, depending on your international flight schedule. Options include beach resort stays, Stone Town, a spice farm experience, a private dhow cruise, snorkelling, diving, a romantic beach dinner and a couples' spa experience.
The Great Migration is a natural wildlife movement, so sightings depend on the time of year and the location of the herds. If seeing the migration is a major priority, we will recommend the safari route and Serengeti region according to your travel dates. The Serengeti also offers excellent wildlife viewing outside migration periods.
Tanzania offers excellent opportunities to see the Big Five, particularly across the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystem. The Ngorongoro Crater is among the best places in Tanzania to encounter the endangered black rhino. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but your private guide will use current conditions, wildlife behaviour and local knowledge to maximise your opportunities.
No. The Serengeti hot-air balloon safari is an optional additional experience available for suitable Serengeti itineraries. It is quoted separately and can be added during planning. Balloon flights are subject to weather conditions and operational availability — if a flight is cancelled, it is typically refunded or rescheduled.
Yes, subject to availability and the overall route. We can recommend accommodation based on your preferred style and budget across mid-range, luxury and premium categories, and we quote against real availability at the time of booking. Specific properties are proposed in your tailored proposal.
For a 9-day safari, we recommend spending enough time in the Serengeti to avoid simply driving through it. Two to three nights can work very well, with the exact number depending on your priorities and travel season. This sample itinerary includes three nights in the Serengeti, which allows for two full game-driving days.
If you have limited time, nine days can provide an excellent classic Tanzania safari covering Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. If you want a more relaxed pace, more Serengeti time, or several Zanzibar nights, extending to 10 days or longer can make the journey more comfortable. Tell us your priorities and we'll recommend the length that fits.

Nine days can take you from the elephants and baobabs of Tarangire to the endless plains of the Serengeti and the extraordinary wildlife of the Ngorongoro Crater. Add Zanzibar and your adventure can finish beside the Indian Ocean.
