Tarangire National Park
Large elephant populations, iconic baobab trees and a surprising density of wildlife for a park this close to Arusha. Private afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River.
A private 10-day Tanzania honeymoon combining a five-day Northern Circuit safari — Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro — with a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the plains, followed by four days on Zanzibar including Mnemba Atoll snorkeling and a Stone Town heritage day.
This 10-day Tanzania honeymoon safari and Zanzibar beach holiday is built for couples who want a genuine Northern Circuit adventure, a milestone sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti, and a relaxed Indian Ocean finish — without ever feeling rushed. The safari portion moves through three of Tanzania's most storied destinations — Tarangire National Park, the Central Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater — with a private 4×4 vehicle and a dedicated driver-guide throughout. From Arusha, a domestic flight carries you to Zanzibar, where four nights on the island provide beach time, reef snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll, a romantic sunset dhow cruise, and a full day in UNESCO-listed Stone Town. Every element — destinations, pacing, accommodation level and optional romantic experiences — is shaped around your dates, budget and priorities. This page explains exactly how the route works, what wildlife you may see, how the Arusha-to-Zanzibar flight is handled, what is and is not included, what it typically costs, and how to request a tailor-made honeymoon quote.
Ten days gives you the space to slow down on safari, add a once-in-a-lifetime balloon flight, and still arrive on Zanzibar with time to actually unwind.
Tarangire's elephant herds and baobabs, the open plains of the Central Serengeti, and the concentrated wildlife of the Ngorongoro Crater — with time to properly enjoy each, not just pass through.
Float silently over the Serengeti at dawn as the bush wakes below you. Celebrate landing with a traditional five-star champagne bush breakfast cooked in the wild — a classic honeymoon milestone.
Enough time to properly relax — beach days at Nungwi or Matemwe, snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll, a sunset dhow cruise and a full heritage day in Stone Town, without ever feeling squeezed.
Instead of a long overland return and a commercial connection, you fly from Arusha to Zanzibar — saving a full travel day and keeping the honeymoon momentum intact.
A clean bush-to-beach arc from Kilimanjaro Airport, through the Northern Safari Circuit, to the Indian Ocean and Stone Town.
The route runs Kilimanjaro (JRO) → Arusha → Tarangire National Park → Central Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater → Zanzibar → Stone Town → Zanzibar (ZNZ). The first four legs are handled by private 4×4 road transfer with game drives woven into the driving days. The flight from Arusha to Zanzibar replaces a long overland return. On Zanzibar, private transfers connect your beach resort, Stone Town and the airport.
Luxury lodges, tented camps, a sunrise balloon flight, bush breakfasts and Indian Ocean beaches — the moments that make this honeymoon.
Each stop on the route serves a different purpose — from big-game country to a milestone balloon flight to a quiet tropical island.
Large elephant populations, iconic baobab trees and a surprising density of wildlife for a park this close to Arusha. Private afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River.
Endless golden grasslands, cheetahs scanning from termite mounds, prides of lions on granite kopjes. You'll stay in a secluded canvas camp under the stars.
Float silently over the savannah as the wildlife wakes up below you. Landing is celebrated with a traditional five-star champagne bush breakfast in the wild.
A UNESCO World Heritage property and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. Descend 600 metres into a self-contained ecosystem with Africa's highest density of wildlife.
White sands at Nungwi or Matemwe, warm turquoise water, and world-class snorkeling at the Mnemba Atoll reefs — coral gardens and sea turtles.
Zanzibar's UNESCO-listed historic centre — a Swahili coastal town shaped by African, Arab, Indian and European influences, with spice-scented alleys and carved doors.
This is an example framework — the final itinerary is shaped around your dates, accommodation level and pace.
You'll be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred privately to your lodge in Arusha — approximately a one-hour drive. The afternoon is deliberately unhurried: toast the start of your journey, shake off the jet lag by the pool, or take an intimate walk through a lush, working coffee plantation.
A morning road journey from Arusha to Tarangire National Park (approximately a 2-hour drive). Enter Tarangire, famous for its massive elephant herds and otherworldly baobab trees. In the afternoon, enjoy a private game drive along the Tarangire River, tracking lions, leopards and giraffes. Retire to an elevated luxury tented lodge built seamlessly into the rocky escarpment.
Depart Tarangire and drive through the lush highlands past Lake Manyara, continuing toward the Central Serengeti. Descend onto the endless golden grasslands of the Serengeti — prime predator territory. Keep your eyes peeled for cheetahs scanning the horizons from termite mounds, and prides of lions lounging on smooth granite kopjes.
Wake up before dawn for a classic honeymoon milestone — a sunrise hot air balloon safari. Float silently over the savannah as the wildlife wakes up below you. Spend the rest of the afternoon chasing the Great Migration or tracking elusive leopards with your private guide — the Serengeti offers exceptional wildlife viewing year-round.
Drive from the Central Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (approximately 3 hours). Descend 600 metres down into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The Ngorongoro Crater is a self-contained ecosystem boasting the highest density of wildlife in Africa — and your absolute best chance to spot the rare Black Rhino and check off all of the Big Five in a single morning.
Morning transfer to Arusha or a nearby airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar Island (ZNZ). Trade the dust of the bush for the warm, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Arrive at a luxury boutique beach resort on the pristine white sands of Nungwi or Matemwe.
Two leisurely days based at your Zanzibar beach resort. Dedicate these days entirely to island relaxation. Go snorkeling or scuba diving at the world-renowned Mnemba Atoll reefs to see vibrant coral gardens and swim with sea turtles. Alternatively, charter a traditional wooden dhow boat for a private sailing trip.
Transfer from your beach resort to historic Stone Town (approximately 1 hour). Immerse yourselves in the rich history and exotic architecture of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a guided walking tour through the snaking, maze-like alleys, admire the famous carved Zanzibari doors, and visit an organic spice farm to smell fresh clove, nutmeg and vanilla.
Transfer to Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) for your outbound flights home. Savour one last tropical breakfast overlooking the ocean before checking out and heading to the airport with a camera full of unforgettable memories.
Tanzania's Northern Circuit supports an extraordinary range of species. What you see on any given day depends on season, weather and plain luck. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Tarangire is especially known for its elephant herds and baobab landscapes. Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and predators — lions, leopards and hyenas — also occur in the park. Birdlife is extensive, with TANAPA noting more than 550 species recorded.
The Serengeti offers vast open plains, resident predators — lions, leopards, cheetahs — and grazers including wildebeest, zebra and gazelles. Seasonal migration movements depend on rainfall and the time of year; exact animal locations change throughout the year.
The crater floor supports dense wildlife viewing in a compact area — lions, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and abundant birdlife. Black rhino may be encountered. UNESCO describes the crater as the world's largest caldera.
A note on wildlife: sightings are never guaranteed. We plan routes and timing around the best available information, but wild animals move on their own schedule.
Possibly — but not guaranteed. The Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino) all occur across the Northern Circuit, and this itinerary includes areas where each species may be encountered. Ngorongoro and Serengeti in particular provide strong Big Five opportunities, and Tarangire contributes elephants, buffalo and predators.
The extended 10-day timeframe gives you more game drives than a shorter itinerary — including multiple days in the Serengeti and a full crater day — which meaningfully improves your chances of a full Big Five sighting. The Ngorongoro Crater is widely regarded as the single best place in Tanzania to spot the rare Black Rhino.
Wildlife remains wild. Sightings on any specific game drive depend on season, weather, animal movements and plain luck. We do not describe the Big Five as guaranteed, and no responsible operator should.
The Great Migration is a seasonal, rainfall-driven movement of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem. Its exact location changes through the year — the animals are not permanently in one place, and the timing of the herds' movements varies year to year.
With multiple days in the Serengeti in this 10-day itinerary, and depending on your travel dates, the route can be adjusted toward the region where the herds are most likely to be during your visit. River crossings cannot be promised, and migration viewing depends entirely on rainfall and herd movements at the time of travel.
Importantly, the Serengeti offers excellent wildlife viewing outside migration periods as well. Resident predators, elephants, giraffes and a wide range of plains game are present year-round. If seeing the migration is a priority, share your preferred dates early so we can select routing and accommodation accordingly.
Some romantic touches are built in by default. Others can be arranged as honeymoon upgrades. Here's the honest breakdown.
Optional experiences are quoted separately and confirmed before travel. No optional service is automatically included unless stated in your proposal.
The transition from the Serengeti to Zanzibar is one of the great pleasures of a Tanzania honeymoon. You leave behind the cold mornings on the crater rim and the dust of the plains, and step into warm air, humid tropical evenings and the sound of the Indian Ocean.
Zanzibar — the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, known locally as Unguja — is more than a beach. It is an island with its own history: Swahili trading ports, Omani palaces, spice farms and fishing villages, layered onto some of the finest beaches in the western Indian Ocean.
The 10-day itinerary includes four nights on Zanzibar, which provides a genuinely unhurried stay — two full beach days (Days 7 and 8) for snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll, a sunset dhow cruise and resort downtime, plus a full heritage day in Stone Town (Day 9).
We work across three accommodation tiers. Your final lodges and Zanzibar resort are chosen based on availability, location and the style you prefer.
Comfortable lodges and tented camps with private rooms, en-suite bathrooms and strong locations on the safari route. On Zanzibar, well-run beach hotels with good service and direct beach access.
Upscale safari lodges and premium tented camps — often with sweeping views, plunge pools, spa facilities and elevated dining. On Zanzibar, higher-end boutique beach resorts with premium beachfront rooms.
Top-tier properties, upgraded room categories where available, private suites, plunge pools, beachfront villas and additional private experiences layered on top — subject to real availability at the time of booking.
Every property is quoted against real availability at the time of booking. Specific properties are proposed in your tailored proposal — we do not list unverified hotels on this page.
This honeymoon is built as a private safari by default. That means your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, and the freedom to shape each day around your pace rather than a group schedule.
A shared-vehicle option may be available on request. Shared vehicle never means shared accommodation — rooms remain private. If this particular honeymoon product is booked as private-only, we will confirm that clearly in your proposal.
For this 10-day configuration, most couples invest between US$4,500 and US$10,000+ per person. Your exact quote depends on season, accommodation tier, Zanzibar resort and the experiences you add — here are the two main tiers.
Well-located lodges and tented camps with private rooms, en-suite bathrooms and reliable service — plus a comfortable Zanzibar beach hotel.
Premium lodges and high-end tented camps in prime wildlife locations, elevated dining, and a higher-end Zanzibar beachfront resort.
Your final proposal lists every inclusion and exclusion line by line. The items below reflect the standard 10-day configuration.
Confirmations vary. Please rely on your final proposal for the definitive list applicable to your booking.
Real feedback from couples who travelled this route with us.
The hot air balloon over the Serengeti was the single best moment of our lives. The champagne bush breakfast afterwards was extraordinary. Ten days was the right length — nothing felt rushed.
Four nights on Zanzibar made all the difference. We had time to actually relax after safari, snorkel at Mnemba, and still enjoy a full day in Stone Town without feeling like we were ticking boxes.
Our guide was outstanding. He found a rhino in the crater on our first morning and a leopard on a kopje in the Serengeti that afternoon. Every transfer was on time and every lodge was exactly what we'd hoped for.

There is no single universally "best" month. The right window depends on your priorities — wildlife, beach weather, budget, crowds and migration interest.
Generally good safari conditions. The Southern Serengeti / Ndutu area can offer excellent wildlife viewing during the calving season. A strong window for couples wanting classic Serengeti wildlife.
The most popular window for Northern Circuit wildlife viewing and typically the strongest Zanzibar beach weather. Cooler mornings, dry landscapes, animals concentrated around water. Book early.
Short rains can occur, while the bush becomes greener and visitor patterns shift. Fewer crowds and often better rates. Wildlife viewing can still be excellent, especially outside the wettest weeks.
Zanzibar can be visited in any month. June to October and December to February are typically the driest and most popular beach windows. The long rains (roughly March to May) bring higher humidity and more rain.
A concise view of safari conditions, Zanzibar weather and honeymoon considerations across the year. Weather is never guaranteed — these are general patterns.

Weather patterns vary year to year. The table above is a general planning guide, not a forecast.
Ten days gives you five full safari days across three major Northern Circuit destinations — Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater — plus a milestone sunrise hot air balloon flight and a champagne bush breakfast. That's genuinely unhurried safari pacing, with time for repeat game drives in predator country rather than a single pass through.
On the Zanzibar side, four nights provides real relaxation: two full beach days for snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll and dhow sailing, plus a dedicated Stone Town heritage day. You arrive home rested rather than recovering from the trip.
If you have room in the budget and calendar, ten days is the sweet spot for most honeymoon couples. If you want even more, common extensions include:
Actual travel times vary depending on accommodation locations, road conditions and routing. Game drives and wildlife stops are woven into some road-transfer days — this is not simple point-to-point driving.
| Route | Travel Consideration |
|---|---|
| Kilimanjaro Airport → Arusha | Approximately 1 hour by private road transfer |
| Arusha → Tarangire | Approximately 2-hour drive, with game-drive stops where appropriate |
| Tarangire → Central Serengeti | Full-day scenic transfer via the Lake Manyara highlands, with wildlife viewing en route |
| Serengeti → Ngorongoro | Approximately 3-hour drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area |
| Ngorongoro → Arusha / airstrip | Road transfer for the domestic flight departure |
| Arusha → Zanzibar | Domestic flight (subject to the confirmed operator and schedule) |
| Zanzibar resort → Stone Town | Approximately 1-hour road transfer |
| Stone Town → Zanzibar Airport | Short road transfer on the day of departure |
Domestic safari flights often have luggage weight limits (typically 15–20 kg per person in soft-sided bags). Confirm the exact allowance for your booking.
The Arusha-to-Zanzibar leg is handled by a domestic flight rather than a road journey — this is one of the main practical advantages of this 10-day configuration. The sequence is:
Flight schedules, routing, aircraft type and luggage limits vary by operator and by date. We do not publish specific airlines, flight numbers or times on this page because they change with each booking. Your confirmed proposal will state the exact routing and allowance.
If you are connecting from Zanzibar to an international flight on the same day, we build in appropriate buffer time based on the confirmed schedule.
A quick packing breakdown for both the safari and the beach portion of the trip.
Domestic flight baggage restrictions must be checked against the confirmed flight operator — soft-sided bags are commonly required on light aircraft.

Small choices add up. Here's how we approach responsible travel on this itinerary.

We work with locally operated lodges and camps, and encourage visits that benefit the communities around them.
Always ask before photographing people, particularly in Stone Town and rural villages.
Bring a reusable water bottle and avoid single-use plastics where you can.
Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim. Dress modestly in Stone Town and villages.
Use reef-safe sunscreen and follow snorkeling guidelines at Mnemba Atoll and other marine sites.

For this 10-day configuration, planning ranges start from approximately US$4,500 to US$6,500 per person for Comfort / Mid-Range, and from US$6,500 to US$10,000+ per person for Luxury. Final pricing depends on travel season, accommodation level, number of travellers, vehicle arrangement, domestic flight routing, Zanzibar resort and room category, optional romantic experiences such as the hot air balloon safari and Stone Town tour, and park/conservation fees.
Yes — 10 days is an excellent length for a Tanzania honeymoon. It gives you five full safari days across Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro including a sunrise hot air balloon safari, followed by four days on Zanzibar with beach time, snorkeling and a Stone Town cultural experience. The pacing is noticeably more relaxed than a 7-day version.
The 10-day configuration includes Arusha arrival, Tarangire National Park, Central Serengeti, a sunrise hot air balloon safari with champagne bush breakfast, the Ngorongoro Crater, a domestic flight from Arusha to Zanzibar, four nights on Zanzibar with beach and snorkeling time at Mnemba Atoll, a Stone Town UNESCO walking tour and spice farm visit, and all private transfers. Exact inclusions are listed in your final proposal.
The sunrise hot air balloon safari over the Central Serengeti is included in the standard 10-day configuration on Day 4, along with a traditional five-star champagne bush breakfast on landing. Balloon flights are subject to weather conditions and operational availability — if a flight is cancelled, it is typically refunded or rescheduled.
Yes — this itinerary is built specifically to combine five safari days in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with a four-day Zanzibar portion including beach, Mnemba Atoll snorkeling and Stone Town, connected by a domestic flight.
By domestic flight from Arusha Airport or a nearby airstrip to Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ). Flight schedules and routing depend on your itinerary and the confirmed operator. Baggage weight limits typically apply on light aircraft.
Yes — in the 10-day configuration, a guided Stone Town walking tour and an organic spice farm visit are included on Day 9. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site with distinctive Swahili urban character.
The standard 10-day configuration includes four nights on Zanzibar, forming a five-day Zanzibar portion including arrival, beach days, Stone Town and departure. Many couples extend this further on request.
Yes. Snorkeling and scuba diving at the world-renowned Mnemba Atoll reefs are included as options during the Zanzibar portion. Coral gardens and sea turtles are commonly seen in the area. Sightings are never guaranteed.
The honeymoon is offered as a private safari by default — a private 4×4 safari vehicle and a private driver-guide, with accommodation in private rooms. A shared-vehicle option may be available on request; shared vehicle does not mean shared accommodation.
The 10-day configuration includes Tarangire National Park, Central Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Lake Manyara and Lake Eyasi can be added as extensions on request.
Ngorongoro and Serengeti provide opportunities for Big Five sightings — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino. The Ngorongoro Crater offers the best single chance at the rare Black Rhino. However, wildlife remains wild and sightings cannot be guaranteed on any specific game drive.
The Great Migration is seasonal and its exact location depends on rainfall patterns and the time of year. Depending on your travel dates, the itinerary can be adjusted toward the Serengeti region where the herds are most likely to be. The Serengeti also offers excellent wildlife viewing outside migration periods.
It depends on your priorities. June to October is the popular dry-season period for Northern Circuit wildlife viewing and typically offers good Zanzibar beach conditions. January to February offers good general safari conditions and potential calving-season viewing in the southern Serengeti. November to December brings green landscapes and fewer crowds. Zanzibar can be visited year-round, though some months are wetter than others.
Yes. You can upgrade to luxury lodges, premium tented camps and higher-end Zanzibar resorts, as well as upgraded room categories where available. Luxury pricing typically starts from approximately US$6,500 per person for this 10-day configuration.
